National Science Day 2023 celebrated at Multani Mal Modi College, Patiala

National Science Day was celebrated at Multani Mal Modi College, Patiala by the Biological and Physics Societies to commemorate the discovery of Raman Effect by Sir C.V. Raman. The theme for this year’s Science Day celebrations was ‘Global Science for Global Well-being’. Physics and Biological Societies under the aegis of Punjab State Council for Science and Technology (PSCST), Chandigarh organized various events like Science Quiz for school students on 7th February, 2023, Scientific Paper Reading competition on 27th February, 2023 and Poster making Competition on 28th February, 2023 for the undergraduate students of Science stream.
Principal Dr. Khushvinder Kumar in his message to the students during the prize distribution event, talked about the significance of innovations in pure as well as applied sciences as forerunners for global well-being. He talked about adopting a unified approach incorporating all sub-disciplines of science for accelerating progress toward developing sustainable solutions to some of the world’s most grave challenges.
40 students belonging to 10 schools participated in the Science Quiz. Geetanjali Babbar, Asmi Saini, Akshita Gupta and Syna of St. Peter’s School, Patiala won the first position, Second position was bagged by Arshdeep Kaur, Navjot Kaur, Shabad Thukral and Saksham Raj of GSS School, Pheel Khana and third position was won by Harmanpreet Kaur, Adabpreet Kaur, Jasman Singh, Yuvraj Chopra of Budha Dal Public School, Patiala.
In the Scientific Paper Reading Competition,15 students of Biological Society participated and the topics were – New techniques in Biodiversity conservation, Artificial intelligence and Machine learning, Doctrine of Signatures and discovery of Medicinal plants, Bioremediation: the solution to pollution, Emerging infectious diseases and Zoonoses and Role of Biotechnology in New India. Noorpreet Kaur (B.Sc. Med. IInd year) bagged the first position. Parul of B.Sc. Med. IIIrd year won the second position while Angelina Paul (B.Sc. Med. IInd year) bagged the third position. Consolation prize was won by Gulmehak Dhanju of B.Sc. Biotech (Hons.) IIIrd year.
17 students participated in Scientific Poster making competition, Amandeep Kaur (B.Sc. II, Non-Medical) won the first position, second position was bagged by Anchal (B.Sc. II, Computer Science) and Manpreet (B.Sc.II, Computer Science) won the third position. Vishnu (B.Sc. II, Computer Science) bagged the consolation prize.
Dr. Ashwani Sharma (Dean, Life Sciences), Dr. Kuldeep Kumar (HOD, Dept. of Biotechnology), Dr. Kavita (HOD, Dept. of Physics), Dr. Bhanvi (HOD, Dept. of Zoology) and Dr. Palvinder Kaur (Co-ordinator of the event) congratulated the winners of various competitions. The faculty of Department of Botany, Zoology, Biotechnology and Physics actively organised and conducted the various competitions.
